When the NCNW and Adolfino collaborated on an event for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, they vowed to start a VAW coalition in our community. We all know that the statistics of sexual assault are inaccurate as at least 63% of women don’t file a report, and the data from the police precinct varies so wildly from that of the local hospitals. Our community board Women’s Issues Committee is collaborating with the Public Safety and Human Services Committee to bring city agencies, nonprofits, and residents together to identify potential coalition members. NCNW is also working with Pratt Institute on an Interactive Installation which will live on the fence of the Neighborhood Women building. This project will educate people about the UN SDGs and we will use it to collect data and provide more support for women who experience violence.
